HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY! Celebrated by mainly the Americas, but a very significant segue from the old world to the modern one we live in today. Regardless of how you feel about the holiday, let’s be grateful for all the blessings we reap that have stemmed from the discovery of the new world by way of ol’ Chris.
2 months since my last drop— not too shabby considering that I’ve gone 8 months between singles before. 4 months might be my average, but who’s counting?
Got a nice, positive one here for you. I know my last couple had been a bit harsh/intense according to the feedback I received, but this single should act as a counter weight to all that.. I hope.
Anyway, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the name, Shane Co. is a very prominent jeweler here in Utah. Fun fact, Shane Co. is the largest privately owned jeweler in the United States. There are many locations across the country, and if you’re in any area with a Shane Co. jeweler, you probably know that their ads have aired consistently on TV/radio over the years. I remember when I was younger, hearing Tom (Shane Co. CEO) on the radio boast of their exclusive, handpicked, imported diamonds- and I was (and still am) convinced early on that Shane Co’s got the best of the best when it comes to jewelry.
Shane Co. doesn’t sponsor me in any way, but hopefully that changes once this gains some traction haha.. Seriously though, Tom- if you’re listening, I could use your support! Hahaha..
That’s about it regarding the title- onto the song itself. A few of you will notice a very familiar segment in the song, specifically the 2nd half of the hook.. That’s right- I consider it a tribute to one of my favorite bands growing up.. Small Axe. “Peninaolemoana” was and still is a very valid song in my opinion- and I’ll go as far as to say the song is timeless. I’m always blown away by almost every element of the record; the instrumentation, the quality of the recording given the timeframe it was making its rounds, the musicianship, the writing, the vocalist, etc. It truly is a great piece of art and I thought I’d pay homage by implementing one of my favorite parts of the song.
I already have the next single lined up for release, but in order to let this release breathe, I set it about a month out. I heavily rely on word-of-mouth when it comes to the spreading of my music, which is partly why I go months between releases. Social media helps a ton, especially when you’re an independent artist, but like I’ve mentioned before, I believe social media does more harm than anything else. So I try NOT to utilize socials as much as I can help it. Might be a fight in futility, but I like making my life harder haha..
Let me know what you think of the song, my friends. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my work and read these rants. Got more on the way, but until the next drop. Take care & BLESSAWP!
lyrics
Can I buy you up a necklace from Shane Co.
Just for rockin’ with me way before the money
Chandelier on your wrist and your ankle
‘Cause baby you deserve it
Held me when I was hurtin’
I didn’t make it easy,
Now it’s easy ‘cause you earned it
Woah-woah-woah-I’m on one
(Woah, woah)
Yooo-woah-I’m on one
(Woah)
Aye- It’s Sione!
Way before I was ever on
Before I started chasin’ dreams for forever long
You ain’t ever cut the stream like a marathon
Any other girl would leave me, but you hella strong
Head strong for me even when my head’s gone
You go hard for me even when I’m dead wrong
Stand tall for me even if my legs’ gone
That’s why I trust you with my kids when I’m dead gone
One day I’ll be dead
Sooner or later, inevitably it’s gon’ pull up ahead
But even then
My kids are free
All you gon’ leave for your kids is your debt
But what you expect
Don’t get upset
Shut up and get you a check
Don’t nobody cares ‘bout yo problems
Shut up and get you a check
Can I buy you up a necklace from Shane Co.
Just for rockin’ with me way before the money
Chandelier on your wrist and your ankle
‘Cause baby you deserve it
Held me when I was hurtin’
I didn’t make it easy,
Now it’s easy ‘cause you earned it
So now I got you whippin’ in that 2022
Make your fake friends say that you been actin’ new new
She got a bouquet ok let’s go n’ get you 2
Could’ve bought you up a crib, but you didn’t wanna move N’ that’s-
Coo’
Countin’ money up without you that’s-
Rude
Couldn’t do this thing without you that’s-
True
Now that my money on 10 you don’t really wanna spend it
I don’t know if I should feel offended
Told you that I was gon’ be rich, you didn’t think that I meant it
(I meant it, I meant it, yeauh)
Back then couldn’t pay my rent
All o’ that done ended
No less than a miracle
No stress- ain’t none at all
I’m blessed more than I know
I’m blessed up
(Yeauh, yes)
Ain’t got no stress
(Ain’t got no stress)
Diamonds on your necklace
(Diamonds on your necklace)
Only the best
(Only the best)
Do you like baguettes
(Do you like baguettes)
What about Rolexs’
(What about Rolexs’)
And VVSs’
(And VVSs’)
They ain’t like the rest, baby
